If you served in the U.S. military, you’ve earned more than just a thank-you—you’ve earned financial security. For 2026, the Department of Veterans Affairs has implemented a 2.8% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), meaning your monthly checks just got a significant boost.

Whether you're already receiving compensation or looking to file your first claim, here is what you need to know about the new rates and the latest PACT Act updates.

2026 VA Disability Pay Increase

Effective January 1, 2026, all VA disability ratings from 10% to 100% saw an automatic 2.8% increase to help veterans keep up with inflation.

New Monthly Payment Highlights:

  • 10% Rating: $180.42
  • 50% Rating (Veteran Alone): $1,132.90
  • 100% Rating (Veteran Alone): $3,938.58

Note: If you have a spouse, children, or dependent parents and a rating of 30% or higher, your monthly payment is even higher.

Important 2026 Eligibility Updates

The PACT Act & Hypertension

Starting October 1, 2026, high blood pressure (hypertension) will officially be added to the list of "presumptive conditions" for Vietnam-era veterans. This means the VA will assume your condition was caused by service-connected exposure, making it much easier to qualify for benefits.

VA Pension & Net Worth Limits

For veterans age 65+ or those with a permanent disability, the VA Pension is a vital resource. For 2026, the net worth limit to qualify has increased to $163,699. Remember, your primary home and car do not count toward this limit!

How to Check Your Payment Dates

Staying on top of your budget is easier when you know exactly when your federal funds will hit your account. Since many veterans also qualify for Social Security benefits, coordinating these schedules is essential.
